February 1970
Vance Packard, author of Hidden Persuaders, visits Columbia on Feb. 11 to gather material for his book A Nation of Strangers, in which he calls Columbia “one extraordinary success story.”

February 1971
Kahler Hall, in Harper’s Choice, named for William Charles Kahler who farmed the land on which it stands, is dedicated on February 27.

February 1972
Columbia’s first hotel, Cross Keys Inn at Columbia, opens on February 16 on the shore of Lake Kittamaqundi.

February 1992
The first residents in Columbia’s last village move into their home on Misty Top Pass in Pheasant Ridge, River Hill on February 28.

February 1997
Opening performance at the Jim Rouse Theater on February 22 features the Momix Dance Company and a multi-media tribute to James Rouse narrated by Edward Norton and Betsy True .
